Suki has opened an investigation. Suki writes everything down, and this is what happens when somebody writes everything down.
She is standing in the canteen before school, asking people questions as they come in.
The missing chicken case is closed. The cat confessed by sitting next to the evidence. But a second question has appeared, and Suki cannot and will not ignore it.
“Somebody took my chair,” she says.
“Everybody moved everything,” says Coco. “There was an alarm.”
“My chair was under the table at half past twelve. When we came back in at twenty past one, my chair was gone.” Suki opens the notebook. “I am asking everybody the same question today. Where were you at 1:20 pm?”
“Suki. It’s a chair.”
“It is not about the chair,” says Suki. “It is about not knowing.”
