“Rain,” says Mum. She has four buckets of flowers in the sink.
“If it rains, we’re finished.”
Dad says it in Spanish too, because he says most things twice. “Si llueve, estamos perdidos.”
Leo puts his spoon down.
“Who is finished?”
Nobody answers him. Mum is counting stems. Coco is looking for her sock.
He puts the sentence somewhere safe and keeps it.
Mango the cat sits in the one empty bucket.
