Writing to the French partner school. Twelve drafts. Still about chips.#Trauma

The letter from France arrives at lunch.

Miss Petal carries it round the dining hall. A school in Amiens has written to Roseville. Twenty-eight pupils want twenty-eight letters back.

“Say who you are,” she says. “Say what you like doing. Say what you want to do.”

“I like eating chips,” says Pip, eating chips.

“Yes!”

“I want to eat chips.”

“Also yes.”

“Miss, that was the same sentence twice.”

“It was not,” says Miss Petal, and her whole face changes. “It was not the same at all.”

Escribiendo al instituto francés. Doce borradores. Sigue hablando de patatas.#Trauma

La carta de Francia llega a la hora de comer.

Miss Petal la pasea por todo el comedor. Un instituto de Amiens le ha escrito a Roseville. Veintiocho alumnos quieren veintiocho respuestas.

«Decid quiénes sois», dice. «Decid qué os gusta hacer. Decid qué queréis hacer.»

«I like eating chips», dice Pip, comiendo patatas fritas.

«¡Sí!»

«I want to eat chips.»

«También sí.»

«Miss, eso ha sido la misma frase dos veces.»

«No lo ha sido», dice Miss Petal, y le cambia la cara entera. «No era la misma en absoluto.»
